Giorgos Giakoumakis discusses the superb technique he keeps pulling off at Celtic

Giorgos Giakoumakis has today addressed his Celtic goals as he stated he always tries to score with one touch.

Giakoumakis has netted against St Johnstone, Alloa, Hearts, and Raith Rovers respectively. All 4 of the strikes netted have come from superb one-touch finishes. It’s a sign of just how confident he is in and around the penalty area.

It was also a trait many may have noticed him trying to pull off against Rangers. He forced Allan McGregor into 3 fine stops in the recent Glasgow derby that all came from him going from goal with his first touch.

And it doesn’t appear to be just a coincidence either. Giakoumakis was chatting to 67HailHail at his pre-Bodo Glimt press conference as he told us that this is a trait he also keeps up during training:

“Yes, it’s something really natural [to him]. It’s one of my abilities, I look to score with one touch. It’s something that I always use in training also and I need to improve even more on it.

“I will have chances in this team and I need to be focused and I need to be sharp because this situation will come in every game.”

Giakoumakis has shown touch of class with Celtic goals

When it comes to the goals Giakoumakis has scored for Celtic, the vast majority have come from a level of class that fans are allowed to be excited about.

For example, his first-time finishes against St Johnstone, Alloa, and Hearts were all of a seriously classy nature. The kind of finish that your average striker just can’t pull off. It takes a level of technique that only those with something proper about them can pull off.

Granted, his goal against Raith on Sunday was hardly a beauty, but there was an element of composure and skill that you could appreciate. The trick for Giakoumakis is to try and get more consistency to his game in that respect.

Because he does openly acknowledge it here. The Greek striker admits he still needs to improve, and it’s difficult to argue. Whilst he’ll be pleased to be back in the side and making an impact, it won’t totally satisfy him that he’s still only had 3 goals since the new year.

He’ll feel he needs some more Premiership strikes to his name too. 2 of his goals in 2022 have come in Scottish Cup ties against lower-league opposition.

But there’s certainly something about Giakoumakis. Something that, as a Celtic supporter, keeps you intrigued and excited.
