Giorgos Giakoumakis has been handed the number seven shirt at Celtic, the club confirmed in a social media post today.
Celtic posted footage of Giakoumakis’ shirt number being printed, before the player poses with it at the Lennoxtown training centre.
Fellow new signings Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota have been handed the number 20 and 17 shirts.
The number 7 shirt is one that supporters always look out for given its association with few legendary players down the decades.
Jimmy Johnstone, Kenny Dalglish and Henrik Larsson all wore the shirt with distinction.
In recent years it’s been given to a number of less than stellar signings including Nadir Ciftci, Miku and Freddie Ljungberg.
However, nobody has had the number since Patrick Roberts returned on loan for the 2017/18 season.
Giakoumakis, arriving as last season’s Eredivisie top scorer, will be hoping he can become associated with the iconic number in a positive sense.
If he can start banging in the goals he could become a cult hero himself, much like Scott McDonald and Robbie Keane, who have both worn the number before him.

Reaching the status of a Larsson and a Dalglish is a far bigger task of course and not something we should be projecting onto him!
We hope he can hit the ground running and show why the club have invested in him this summer.
Good luck Giorgos!
