Giorgos Giakoumakis has described how impressed he’s been by the energy levels of Daizen Maeda at Celtic this season.

Maeda arrived at Parkhead 4 months after Giakoumakis. However, both made a massive impact in the second half of the campaign en route to winning the Scottish Premiership title.

But whilst Giorgos won the hearts of the supporters via his performances, Maeda did so with his relentless energy levels as he typified Ange’s high-pressing style with tenacious enthusiasm.

So much so that he’s even been wowing his Celtic teammates too. Giakoumakis has been discussing Maeda as he provided his Japanese teammate with some complimentary words.

As quoted by the National, he said: “He can run two 90 minutes in a row. His fitness is really good and it really helps us. You see him attacking and then he is back running helping the defence.

“It really suits our game and the way we play. He is a big player for us. There are exciting times to come.”

Daizen Maeda has grown into Celtic role as Giorgos Giakoumakis excited for next season

Maeda didn’t start off too bright at Parkhead. It took him some time before he was able to start making a telling impact in games. Whether it was because he was adapting to a new way or life or style of football, one thing’s for sure – it wasn’t down to tiredness.

The former Yokohama Marinos star has already stated that he gets his energy from the supporters. But the truth is it’s still a mystery as to how he can still put on a relentless press after 90 minutes. He still looks fresh coming off the pitch and it’s absolutely defied belief this season.

It’s a terrific reputation the player has managed to build up since his arrival. He’s known for never stopping or giving up for the cause. Celtic supporters respond to that kind of footballer. It shows a level of commitment to the club we can relate to.

Yes there are improvements Daizen can make to his game. But you can’t say that he hasn’t grown with more first-team minutes. It’s clear he’s in a position now where he’s one of the major fan-favourites at Celtic Park as he looks ahead to a prosperous future in Glasgow.

It’s going to be hugely exciting to see his high-tempo pressing style in the Champions League too. Up against the best players in Europe, that kind of energy is going to be our main weapon.

Daizen is going to be absolutely massive for us next term.
