Giorgos Giakoumakis has admitted coming back from his injuries at Celtic has been an incredibly difficult process. However, he’s now feeling good about his Celtic future.
The Greek forward has scored two goals in his last two matches and will be aiming for a third tomorrow at home to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.
It’s not come as an accident. Giakoumakis has been working exceptionally hard. Ange Postecoglou even recently revealed he rejected the chance of a Celtic holiday to put in extra effort at Lennoxtown over the winter break.

He was asked about that today in a press conference and didn’t shy away from how hard it has been.
Giakoumakis said [Celtic YouTube]: “Yeah, it was really difficult for me. It’s something no player in the world wants, to lack fitness or health. It was difficult for me but my goal is really big. I was dreaming only for my comeback and thank God, it is time.
“When you have to adjust to life in Scotland and you have injuries, you haven’t achieved anything. It was a really rough period for me. But as long as I have my family with me I’m feeling strong and staying focused on my targets.”
Giakoumakis would go on to express his enjoyment playing with a talented side, stating: “Coming here to sign for this club, this beautiful club, wasn’t a risk for me. I know that if I am healthy and strong I will achieve many things with this team.”
The 27-year-old has stepped up at a critical period for Celtic. With Kyogo Furuhashi injured and Daizen Maeda on international duty, we badly needed to see something from last season’s Eredivisie top scorer.
He’s delivered so far and you wouldn’t bet against him popping up with more big goals over the next couple of weeks.
With his injury problems behind him, it’s onwards and upwards for the battling forward.
