Celtic target Brandon Soppy has set tongues wagging after some cryptic messages on social media.

The 19-year-old Rennes right back has been heavily linked with a move to Paradise in recent days. Fabrizio Romano had tweeted that “talks opened” between the French youngster and the Bhoys.

And to add fuel to those reports, the defender himself has shared a couple of messages on his Instagram account. The first said: “dieu est le seul qui ne te decevra jamais”, which means “God will never disappoint you” in English.

The second slide on his stories today featured what looked like Soppy packing up his belongings from Roazhon Park, the home of Stade Rennais.

This seems to be the biggest indication yet that the Celtic target is leaving Rennes. However, it doesn’t automatically mean that he’s joining the Bhoys; according to Fabrizio Romano, French clubs are interested in the right-back’s services.

However, those clubs would need to be the monied institutions of Ligue 1. The league is facing financial chaos, with confusion over TV deals hugely effecting club budgets.

Soppy would definitely sort a problem for Celtic. Since the departures of Jeremie Frimpong [BBC] and, to a lesser degree, Hatem Abd Elhamed [Daily Record], the Bhoys have been undermanned at right-back.

Could Brandon Soppy be heading to Celtic?

A youth international of some repute for France, Soppy is one of Ligue 1’s emerging talents. Last season, he played twice in the Champions League, and 9 times in Ligue 1.

Rennes’ academy has been an unequivocal talent factory over recent seasons. In the last decade, they’ve produced talents including Ousmane Dembelé, Tiemoué Bakayoko and Edouardo Camavinga.

Soppy fits exactly what Postecoglou seems to want from his full-backs. He’s aggressive, a determined tackler and more than adept at cutting inside, allowing a winger to use space in the flanks.

Has the Greek-Aussie boss tempted the Rennes star to Glasgow? We’ll need to wait and see.
