Former Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie has paid a huge compliment to Celtic skipper Scott Brown. The duo have had some combative battles in the past, and Shinnie has now revealed that Brown is the player that he most enjoyed playing against.
“I always liked to play against Scott Brown in the middle” Shinnie said, as he was questioned by Scotland team-mate Kenny McLean on the Scotland National Team Twitter account.
“Both liked to battle”
“Good games, games that I enjoyed. Similar kind of players. Both liked to battle, both left it all out on the pitch so always a game I enjoyed.”
Shinnie’s comments will no doubt bring a smile to Brown’s face. Whenever the duo met on the pitch it was usually the Hoops skipper that came out on top.
Duo defined recent rivalry
The pair seemed to define the battle between Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Premiership in recent years.
If Aberdeen ever had a chance to threaten at the top of the league, Brown and Celtic made sure that it didn’t happen.
Now that Shinnie has left Aberdeen to join Derby the rivalry between the players is at an end. The rivalry usually ended with Brown on top. However, it is intriguing to be told that Shinnie enjoyed the battles as much as Brown did.
