Livingston defender Ayo Obileye has lauded Celtic after our convincing win at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday as he talked up our title chances.

Obileye could do nothing to stop the Hoops from running amok in the 3-1 victory, which ensured we regained our 3 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The Englishman did come close to netting on 2 occasions when he clipped the bar with a header and saw a left-footed effort denied by Joe Hart. But the truth is the Lions were never really in the game after being torn apart within a 55-minute period.

And it’s clear Celtic left a big impression on Obileye as he took time to praise our display. Speaking via the Scottish Daily Express [print edition, 08/03, page 58], Obileye said: “They are doing really well. From the start of the season they were similar to us in terms of a bunch of new players arriving at the club.

“But they are gelling now and they’ve had some additions in January as well. They are looking like a great team. I can’t really say in terms of who will win between them and Rangers. But right now Celtic are on top.

“If they keep doing what they did at the weekend, they’ll stay on top.”

Celtic showing no signs of letting up, but pressure is only going to intensify

Celtic are absolutely bossing the title race as things stand. We’re producing result after result whilst we look over at Rangers and see a team struggling to deal with their “champions” tag.

The Hoops are showing absolutely no signs of letting up either. The reason Obileye is so gracious and complimentary towards Celtic is because we deserve it. It’s as simple as that. We were so convincing in West Lothian that there’s no other take that can come out of the game.

However, the pressure is only going to intensify in the coming weeks. We still have 2 Glasgow derbies to negotiate for a start. No doubt some tough away days have still to be marked into our calendar for after the split too.

But even so, Celtic have gotten through yet another hectic phase of Premiership games still flying at the top of the Premiership. Rangers will do well to match those intensity levels in the closing weeks of the season. As of right now, it doesn’t look anywhere near like happening for them.

So it’s always pleasing to hear comments like these being bandied around. It’s great to see Celtic’s reputation being bolstered around the league.

Now, let’s see if we can go and improve it further by bagging the Premiership title.
