Celtic defender Greg Taylor was spotted in training at Lennoxtown today as he closes in on a return from the hamstring injury that has kept him out for weeks.

Taylor limped out of the derby against Rangers at the start of the month and it was subsequently revealed he had picked up the muscle injury.

The prognosis from Ange Postecoglou was always a timescale of weeks rather than months, but today’s images confirm his rehabilitation has gone well and that he’s returned to contention for Celtic.

It’s unlikely the left-back will be risked at home to Greenock Morton tomorrow with both Alexandro Bernabei and Josip Juranovic available.

However, he will have a full week of preparation ahead of the upcoming test against Dundee United at Tannadice and it’d be great to have him back for that one.

Taylor has been one of the standout performers in Ange Postecoglou’s team this season and another run of sustained form would put him in the conversation for player of the year honours.

He looks as comfortable as anyone working within the manager’s tactical system and has been integral in progressing play from our own half into the final third, either as a ball carrier or finding that space between the lines as the spare man.

Juranovic looked sharp mid-week and Bernabei is still improving, but Taylor is undoubtedly the first-choice pick at left-back.

There’s no reason to rush him back early, but it’s certainly a good sight to see him working with the squad again.
