Celtic defender Greg Taylor is enjoying playing alongside Mohamed Elyounoussi on the Bhoys’ left flank, stating in an interview with CelticFC.net that the winger is set to be a massive part of the club’s push towards ten-in-a-row.
Taylor has been part of Lennon’s first-choice pre-season side at left-back ahead of Boli Bolingoli, linking up especially well with Elyounoussi in front of him and Callum McGregor in midfield.
Joining Celtic last summer, the former Kilmarnock man’s progress at Celtic Park has been steady and he’ll be hoping to take his game to the next level throughout the coming season.
If he can strike up a fruitful partnership with the Southampton loanee, it’ll go a long way towards making him a popular player with supporters.
That certainly appears to be the aim, going by his latest comments.
As quoted by CelticFC.net, Taylor said: “All three of us – myself, Moi Elyounoussi and Callum McGregor – all like playing together.
“There’s a good understanding there and we’ve developed that over the last few weeks in pre-season. Hopefully that goes from strength to strength. I’m certainly enjoying it and I think the other two lads are as well.
“Moi’s movement is top-class. I think he’ll play a massive part this season and be a massive player for us.
“I certainly enjoy having him in front of me and I think the boys certainly enjoy having him in the team. He scored again the other night and hopefully he can continue doing that.”
Elyounoussi scored seven goals and assisted six more last term and his ambition is likely taking both tallies into double figures for the 2020/21 campaign.
To do that he’ll need strong defensive support and a left-sided partner who can cause havoc in attack too.
With no sign of Celtic strengthening the left-back position anytime soon, it looks like Taylor will be the man trusted by Lennon, at least in the early part of the season.
Taylor has positives and negatives to his game but one of his obvious weapons is his crossing ability and that could perhaps be a route towards Elyounoussi getting on the end of things in the opposition box.
Hopefully their enjoyment from playing together results in good times for the team and supporters.
