In the lead-up to every Glasgow Derby match, we have had to endure the Rangers player’s press conferences where they seem to want to belittle the achievements of Celtic and our manager.
But Greg Taylor showed real class in his summation of the Scottish Cup semi-final and reserved praise for our opponents who did put up a decent fight.
Taylor said [Glasgow Times], “We were under a bit of pressure but the whole team held up well and, in these cup ties, it’s important to get the win and we did that.
“We’ve got such a strong mentality in all games because we don’t treat any different. The next game’s the most important regardless of the occasion, that’s the philosophy the managers brought in, we don’t waste a session or a game. When it comes to these big games, it helps.
“Rangers are a good opponent, let’s not be unfair. They’re difficult games, you’ve seen how close they’ve been. When it comes to these games they are so difficult but we’ve got the same mentality for every game and I think that does help.”
From Fashion Sakala calling us ‘the other mob’, to Michael Beale claiming Ange Postecoglou is lucky the media games that get played pre and post-derby are petty and somewhat childish.
Taylor has shown that you don’t need to try to resort to mind games to get one over on your biggest rivals. He has also shown that respect should be served where it is due. And he did that with his analysis of the Ibrox club’s performance.
Just like Ange, the Scotland international decided to do his talking where it mattered. On the pitch and not in the media. That’s why we are going for a world record eighth treble and Rangers meander onto a trophyless end of season.
