Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer is now said to be worth around £10m just 2 months after being linked with a potential move to Celtic.
Back in March, the Hoops were named alongside Rangers, Leeds United, Norwich, and Brentford as having an interest in the player [Football League World]. At the time, it was reported by the Coventry Telegraph that the player was being valued at £5m minimum. That was despite his contract expiring in the summer.
Not long after, the Feyenoord academy product put pen to paper on a new deal with the Championship club that ties him down south until 2024. And apparently, that’s seen his value more or less double just weeks after the link to Parkhead.

The latest club to be linked with the Dutch under-20 international’s services is Brighton. And speaking to Sussex Live, reliable Coventry reporter Andy Turner mentioned what he’s now being valued at by the second-tier club:
“Coventry are desperate to keep him but they are realistic enough to know that every player has a price. Fans are hoping he stays for another season and if he does go, it won’t be on the cheap.
“Having signed a new contract extension recently to take him to 2024, City have a bit of security. As for how much he’d cost, it has been speculated that he’s worth around the £9million-£10million mark.”
Gustavo Hamer’s new contract now seemingly puts him out of Celtic’s reach
The defensive midfielder has certainly had a fine season with the Championship club. Despite playing in a deeper role, Hamer has managed to rack up 10 assists for the campaign [Transfermarkt].
A defensive midfielder could very well be on the agenda for Ange Postecoglou this summer as he looks to bolster his squad for next season. However, at the same time, surely there will be a plan in place for Yosuke Ideguchi to get some game-time in that role.
In any case, Hamer is likely beyond our reach at this point. His new contract was always going to see his valuation prop up. Granted, the extent to which it has is questionable.

If the player is to move this summer, then you would imagine that with the EPL clubs hovering then it could also strike up a bidding war. Hamer’s season won’t have done anything to push any interest away.
It remains to be seen if Celtic do have a replacement for Nir Bitton in mind or whether they’re happy to push ahead with Ideguchi taking up Nir’s role.
Whatever happens, Hamer to Celtic Park looks totally out of the question at this point.
