Celtic’s domestic performances have been really inconsistent this season.
When they are firing, Brendan Rodgers’ side are unplayable. That’s just a fact. the 6-0 win over Aberdeen and the 7-1 thumping of Dundee shows that when this Celtic team are in the mood then they will run over the top of any and all opposition in Scotland.
And that is what Jim Spence fears for St Johnstone this weekend. The former BBC man was speaking about the upcoming Scottish Premiership fixture against Craig Levein‘s side when he warned that The Saints could be on to a hiding in the 3pm kick-off at Paradise.
Spence said [Courier Talking Football], “I don’t believe that Craig Levein for a minute doesn’t know what the league table looks like. But there’s not any point in looking at it.
“You know what Craig’s like, He’s, he’s a master of the dark arts to say stuff like that, you know?
“I mean, at the moment, all he has to do is try and prepare his side. But the thought of facing that Celtic side when they are on song is quite alarming.
“It’s a great challenge. But it’s alarming because they’ve got a kind of pace, touch and a movement and a quickness and rapidity about them and a cleverness in a match that’s just so hard to deal with over 90 minutes.”

Spence highlighted so many positives in that one statement it even made my head spin. But it is true. We say it in the two games mentioned above and despite stumbling over the line against Livingston on Sunday, there were points in the game where we were unplayable.
Even in the Champions League, Celtic showed those qualities in the 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid and the 2-1 home defeat to Lazio.
When Celtic are in the mood, teams will struggle to contain us and that is what Brendan Rodgers must get out of his players in the remaining nine SPFL games this season.
Because if he doesn’t, then there is a distinct possibility that Celtic could end this season trophyless.
