Celtic coach Harry Kewell has stated that his role at Parkhead working under Ange Postecoglou is exactly what he needed at this stage of his coaching career.

The former Liverpool and Leeds player already has several managerial roles on his CV from between 2015-2021 at clubs such as Crawley Town and Barnet.

However, during the summer, Kewell made the decision to take up his first assistant coaching role, joining Ange Postecoglou’s team at Celtic.

With Stephen McManus taking the step down to the club’s academy set-up, Kewell is now a key cog on the training ground alongside John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan.

Almost five months into his time at Parkhead, the 44-year-old has picked up plenty of valuable experiences as a coach, with the Hoops performing at the highest level in the UEFA Champions League.

For some coaches, it might have taken some time to settle into life at Paradise. However, for Kewell, it was a fast learning process.

Speaking in a recent interview, the ex-Champions League winner opened up on how his current role is exactly what he needs at this point in his coaching career and the initial ‘wow’ factor he got from working with Ange.

He said [Football Coaches Australia]: “This role when this came about with Ange. I think this is what I needed, you know, to see what a top manager does.

“To see how he handles certain things, so this is probably my first time when I’ve had someone I can sit down with and talk football.

“What I like about him most is that he’s done it the hard way, where no ones backed him. I quite like that. That Ozzyness, that toughness, that grit to keep going and believe in yourself.

“He’s had times when things weren’t going well, but when you listen to him. I wear a hat a lot, but I take my hat off to him.

“When I first was going in there, it was like “wow.”

“I knew how we played or roughly how we played. I thought it was going to take me a couple of weeks to understand the movements and all that. It took me two days.

“I know football, I understand football, but the way he makes it, explains it, the way he shows it, it’s simple. It’s really simple, and it amazes me if you get it wrong. All you have to do is listen because that’s how easy he makes football.”

Since his arrival at Celtic over a year ago, the Hoops supporters have witnessed and praised an incredible turnaround under Ange Postecoglou.

With each passing game, it is clear to see the influence that the ex-Socceroos boss is having on his squad as they look to perform at the highest level of club football.

However, it has also been made clear by Harry Kewell in several interviews that Postecoglou is having a similar sort of positive effect on his coaching staff too.

The likes of Kennedy, Strachan and Kewell have all been rejuvenated by the 57-year-old and are loving working under him on a daily basis.

It is great to see that Postecoglou’s impacts are being felt all across the club, and long may it continue as we strive to improve and achieve more success!
