Harry Kewell reckons the Ange Postecoglou arrival at Celtic will force Steven Gerrard into new ways of thinking.
Kewell’s status as an Australian footballing icon obviously means he knows all about Postecoglou and his methods.
The Barnet boss has been speaking to Sky Sports about his compatriot’s appointment in Glasgow.
As a former teammate of Gerrard at Liverpool, Kewell can also provide a bit of insight into the dynamic between the two bosses next season.
The former Socceroo reckons Postecoglou will be doing things his own way in Scotland.
He told the broadcaster: “First and foremost he’s a fantastic guy. It’s fantastic news that they’ve gone for an Australian. I hear it’s a 12-month rolling contract, which is a shame because I think it takes longer for a manager to put his stamp on it. He’ll have his own ideas, he won’t be tempted to play any other way. He’ll definitely be challenging.”
Asked about the dynamic with Gerrard and whether Postecoglou enjoys a rivalry, Kewell went on to say: “I don’t think he’s gonna have a choice. I think there’s definitely going to be a rivalry.
“I think it will bring the best out of Steven as well. Ange will bring something different. I think Steven is going to have to look at this from a completely different spectrum now.”
As we’ve discussed previously, the 12-month rolling contract issue isn’t a big deal. Kewell likely won’t know this, but that’s just the way Celtic do business.

It doesn’t mean that Postecoglou is set to leave the club within a year, his contract literally always has 12 months left – today, tomorrow, in six months. It’s not a signifier he won’t have time at the club.
Still, Kewell joins the chorus of Australians who have played at the elite level to back Postecoglou’s appointment in Glasgow.
Let’s hope he can do his countryman proud. If he does, Celtic will be the biggest beneficiaries.
In other news, another fascinating Postecoglou video emerges; massive culture change in store for Celtic.
