Hatem Abd Elhamed – the latest Celtic recruit – says he hopes to prove that he belongs at the club.
The Israeli was announced as Neil Lennon’s fourth signing of the window on Wednesday. He signed a four-year deal after joining from Hapoel Be’er Sheva in his homeland.
And after sealing the deal he just can’t wait to get back onto the Celtic Park pitch and prove his worth.
He told STV: “It is a club that always wants to win trophies and play in the Champions League and this is what I want to do also and to make history with Celtic.
“It was amazing (to get on the pitch at half-time) when I got onto the field and saw all the fans and the amazing stadium it was very exciting for me.
“I hope to prove that I deserve to be a part of Celtic.”
Elhamed has to be backed by the Celtic support
The 28-year-old is saying all the right things. He seems humbled to sign for the club – by far the biggest he’s ever played for – and ready to get down to business.
Of course, new signing press conferences mean next to nothing in reality. The real analysis of Elhamed will begin when he pulls on the Hoops for the first time – which could be in as little as ten days.
The Celtic support are sceptical about the signing but he seems intent to prove everyone wrong. You can’t ask for a better attitude than that.
Hopefully the vast majority of the Celtic fanbase can get behind their latest recruit. Hopefully he can repay them with his displays on the pitch.
