Have Brentford paved the way for Rico Henry to go to Celtic?

Brentford may have paved the way for their left-back Rico Henry to move to Celtic.

The Bees have announced the signing of 19-year-old Dominic Thompson on a three-year deal from Arsenal. The teenager is described as a left-sided defender in the statement on the club’s official website.

There are also some interesting quotes from Brentford boss Thomas Frank included.

He says: “Dominic is a player that can continue to develop, and all the coaching staff here are looking forward to helping him get to the next level while also competing with Rico Henry for our left wing back position.”

Is Henry still being lined up by Celtic?

While those comments suggest that Thompson has been brought in to supplement Henry rather than replace him, the reality could be very different.

The Sun recently reported that Celtic were keen on the 22-year-old England youth international. Henry is said to be valued at around £7million so that’s a fee that Celtic could certainly stretch to – especially after selling Tierney.

A tweet from BBC journalist Stefan Bienkowski would support the view that Celtic are moving closer to acquiring Henry. The reporter posted a tweet on Thursday suggesting that Celtic had recently pulled out of a deal for Derby County’s Max Lowe. Bienkowski suggests that the Hoops are soon to make a breakthrough with another left-back target.

The plot is certainly thickening. Celtic know they have to add another left-back following Tierney’s departure. Time will tell if that man is Henry.
