Celtic have announced their fifth signing of the summer.
Hayato Inamura was confirmed by the Hoops moments before the first friendly of the season against Queen’s Park.
The move has been in place for a while after Inamura wrote a goodbye letter to Albirex Niigata fans, with Celtic signing the defender for £250,000.
Having only turned professional six months ago, there is an expectation that Inamura will go out on loan to get up to speed with the Scottish game but could be a long-term addition for Brendan Rodgers.
Hayato Inamura’s first words as a Celtic player
Speaking to Celtic TV after his arrival, Inamura said: “Many Japanese players have had success at this club. Across the world, this is a massive club and is really well known. I am truly excited to be joining Celtic. It’s a huge opportunity for me.
“So far, even the current Japanese players have been performing at a high level. I think that is why there are expectations on Japanese players. I really want to live up to those expectations and do my best.”
Hayato Inamura explains why he chose the number 25 shirt
As confirmed by the club, Inamura revealed that he would be wearing the number 25 shirt – the same one worn by Celtic legend and former Japan international, Shunsuke Nakamura.
It’s big shoes to follow for the young defender, but following in the footsteps of a fellow countryman is a huge dream.

“The reason why I chose 25 is because out of the options I was given, that one really stood out to me,” Inamura stated.
“Then obviously regarding Nakamura, I used to imitate his kicking style when I was a kid. He was one of my favourite players.”
Celtic’s latest signing has signed a four-year contract with the club.
