James Forrest is the latest Celtic player to laud the methods of manager Brendan Rodgers this summer as the feel-good factor continues heading into the start of the Scottish Premiership season.
When Celtic were left without a manager in the wake of the Scottish Cup final, no one really predicted the club would be in such a settled, happy position a few days out from the campaign opener on Flag Day.
But with the move to bring in a former boss, who remains an elite coach, Celtic have managed to keep things steady and progressing forward, with significant transfer business still on the cards throughout August.
Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor and others have all gone on record stating their appreciation for Rodgers’ methods and Forrest is the latest to suggest he is one of, if not the best, manager he has ever worked under. The Celtic winger reckons he can now help the next generation of winners to succeed at the Scottish champions.
Forrest said [Daily Record, 03/08 print edition]: “I just think he is different to other managers I have had. I have had really good managers in the past but he makes you feel really good about yourself and tactically he’s really good as well.
“The younger players will really benefit from having the manager. I know it myself and I know loads of boys in the past who have said the same. It’s great for the team to kick on again because obviously the last couple of years have been successful.
“We’ve got a good core group. Two years ago, when we brought in a lot of young boys from different countries, they settled in well. With just how big the club is, so many of them have done that and that’s a credit to them. Hopefully it’ll be the same with the new ones who have come in and they can help push everyone else on as well.”

The hard work of pre-season is now behind the coaching staff and the squad. The real judgements and the truly important matches are now just right around the corner.
It all starts with Ross County at Celtic Park this Saturday lunchtime. It’ll be a full house for Flag Day and there’ll be a lot of expectation on the Bhoys to deliver the first three points of the season.
We’re in a prime position and it’s time to make good on all the positive noise coming from the club.
