Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has shared that he and Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers have had many interactions since he departed Japan for Glasgow.
Rodgers has replaced the Australian in the Celtic hot seat, with Postecoglou taking part in his first Spurs press conference since being appointed in London.
He went over a variety of subjects – most of which were of no relevance to the Bhoys – but his answers on Rodgers suggest that the former Leicester City man has been keeping a very close eye on the Scottish Premiership champions.
Postecoglou said [Clyde 1]: “He’s absolutely the right man, mate. He’s a fantastic manager and he loves that football club. He was constantly messaging me while I was Celtic manager to make sure I stayed on track and we had success.
“I’ve exchanged messages with him. When I got the role he was very, very supportive at the start. Even when I got this role he sent me a nice message and I reciprocated with that. I’ve stayed in contact with him and all the staff there.
“I’ve got no doubt they’ll have great success and hopefully make an impact in the Champions League. I know that’s what his ambition is. That group of players and that staff certainly have the capabilities of doing that so hopefully that happens.”
Rodgers himself shared to 67 Hail Hail in a media conference on his arrival that he had watched almost every Celtic game and Postecoglou’s comments certainly back up that claim.
It’s fair to say Postecoglou will always have fond memories of Celtic and, while the feeling of his departure is still raw for some, history will be kind to his contribution to the Bhoys too.
He is clearly wishing all the best for the club and its future ambitions. I have no doubt he’ll be keeping a close eye on the results of Rodgers’ side and how they do manage to get on in Europe.
