Hearts supporters hilariously left raging as Celtic hero makes Team of the Year
Hearts supporters have hilariously been left absolutely livid after Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic pipped Stephen Kingsley to the PFA Team of the Year’s left-back spot.
Juranovic has been an absolute stalwart for the Hoops this season in his debut campaign under Ange Postecoglou. The Croatian international has swapped positions at both left-back and right-back as he continues to shine wherever the manager puts him.
So far this term, Josip has made a fine 35 appearances, with only 13 coming at left-back. Throughout that period he’s managed 5 goals and 2 assists – a decent return for the campaign [Transfermarkt].
However, Hearts fans believe Kingsley should’ve made it instead. Perhaps due to the fact he’s featured on 39 occasions and has 7 goals to his name [Transfermarkt]. A fine return most certainly, but you also have to recognise the levels Juranovic has been reaching in a Celtic jersey.
It’s not a case of who’s performed the most in a certain position. It’s about who’s been the biggest standouts who qualify for that position. Juranovic has featured at left-back regularly enough to be involved in the Team of the Year. You have to remember this is only his debut campaign in Scotland and is arguably the best one-v-one defensive full-back in the league.
Josip Juranovic more than merits his TOTY place
Juranovic isn’t just about defending however. He’s played a key role in Ange Postecoglou’s inverted full-back system. So many of our opportunities have come from him getting inside and using his technical ability to open up space for others.
Clearly, in terms of full-backs, it’s been judged that he deserves to be one of the 2 included. Undoubtedly the likes of Greg Taylor and Kingsley will have come close behind, but Josip shouldn’t be ruled out of the running just because he’s played in more than one position this term.
Of course, it’s been met with the usual calls of disgrace and bias from Hearts supporters, some of which believing it’s typical of the decisions that go against the Edinburgh club. But the brutal reality is that Josip is a much better player than Kingsley – and for him not to be included would’ve been incredible.
Massive congrats to Juranovic for the recognition. It’s a fine morale-booster for him after picking up an injury against Rangers at Hampden.
But he certainly isn’t getting much praise from the Tynecastle support. Here’s a look at some of their disappointment with many clearly unhappy with the Celtic man’s inclusion:
