Hearts supporters resigned to early Premier Sports cup exit at the hands of Celtic

Hearts fans have been left absolutely gutted after drawing Celtic in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup.

Robbie Neilson’s side will face the Hoops on Saturday August 14th in what will be the tie of the round [SPFL]. It comes only two weeks after the two sides face off in the opening round of Premiership fixtures.

Hearts managed to win all four of their group stage matches without conceding a goal. However, due to not scoring enough, they didn’t bag a seeded spot in the second round.

Therefore, a tricky tie was always going to be a probability. Even so, the most optimistic of Tynecastle supporters would’ve hoped to have avoided this one.

With the game being played at Celtic Park, it’s another big chance for Ange Postecoglou to build some momentum early into the season.

Hearts fans not pleased with Celtic Park draw

Many of our rival supporters have taken the draw negatively as expected. Some are blaming manager Robbie Neilson for his side not scoring enough goals. Others are simply cursing their luck at the draw or the system.

There is sparse confidence amongst the Jambos support that they can actually get the job done. Instead, they seem resigned to being knocked out in the next round of the cup.

From a Celtic perspective, we know better. We know how easily we can slip up in cup competitions if we take anything for granted. The last time Hearts won in the League Cup at Parkhead came back in 2009 when Tony Mowbray was Hoops boss. They also managed it two years earlier during Gordon Strachan’s Celtic tenure.

So it’s possible if we go into the game with the wrong mindset. That’s not something you could often accuse Celtic of in recent years. But last season saw us exit both cup competitions before Hampden. We have something to prove in every tournament this year.

Even so, the Hearts fans are hardly buzzing. Here’s a look at how they’ve reacted to the draw:
