Met Office weather warnings issued

Currently for Edinburgh, the Met Office have a yellow weather warning for rain and snow which kicked into action at 4am GMT this morning.

According to the BBC Weather website, this weather warning will end at 9am GMT tomorrow morning (Sunday).

This is what the comprehensive Edinburgh weather warning tells us: “Heavy snow on Saturday, followed by a rapid thaw and subsequent rain on Saturday night, may cause some disruption.

“There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

“There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off.

“There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

“There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

“Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

“Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”

Will Hearts vs Celtic go ahead?

As of late Saturday morning, no announcements regarding the weather have been issued by either Hearts or Celtic ahead of tonight’s late kick-off.

According to BBC Weather, the rain is expected to clear nearer the time of kick-off with temperatures rising to around five or six degrees Celsius.

But the rapid thaw of the snow could be the most disruptive factor as fans make their way to the stadium. It remains to be seen whether the game will be ON or OFF.
