Scott Sinclair’s future has been up for debate over the last week.
The Englishman is coming to the end of his contract at the end of the season. Reports stated that he’s currently waiting to hear back from Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell about an extension to his current deal.
Nothing has changed on that front. The winger put in a poor display in the home draw against Aberdeen on Saturday, and was subsequently substituted.
Despite that, many fans still believe he should be given a new contract. Sinclair has bagged 17 goals from a wide position this season, and this has been enough to sway fan-support over to him.
But a hint he could want to stay has been revealed by partner Helen Flanagan. The TV actress opened up on life in Glasgow and spoken about how settled the family is. Speaking to Glasglow Girls Club podcast (11:05), Flangan opens up on how settled her family is.
“We moved here about two years ago, and I love Glasgow. Delilah was born at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow. My little girl Matilda also goes to Nursery here in Glasgow and has a Scottish accent as well.
“I like the people of Glasgow and how friendly everyone is. There’s so much going on and I really enjoy it. I don’t really leave Glasgow, my mum comes up.
“I really feel at home here.”
A settled family
You don’t get the sense that Helen Flanagan would go on about how much she loves it in Glasgow if there was a move coming up. Talking about how much at home she feels with the family shows the comfort they seem to have here.
Of course, this wasn’t from Sinclair’s mouth. Perhaps he doesn’t enjoy it as much for all we know, but there’s certainly no indication that’s the case.
Clearly, if it was down to Flanagan, she would stay in a heartbeat. Sinclair, you have to imagine, feels the same way, and that could mean there’s a desire from Sinclair’s side to stay at Celtic beyond the summer.
Of course, reports state that the ball is in Lawwell’s court over this one. We put out an opinion piece yesterday on why Sinclair SHOULDN’T be offered a new deal, but that’s certainly against overwhelming fan opinion.
The problem for Sinclair at the moment is that plans for next season seem to be on hold. Celtic don’t have a confirmed manager for next year yet, and therefore the club may be holding off in arranging new deals for now.
But, clearly, if it was up to Flanagan, there’s hardly any desire to leave.
