“He’s not going back”; John Hartson’s promising update on Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers

John Hartson has delivered a hugely promising update on Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers as he claims that Tottenham Hotspur don’t want him back.

CCV is on loan at Celtic Park between now and the end of the season. It’s been reported down south that the Hoops would need to fork out as much as £6m to secure him permanently. Any deal could rise to £10m in add-ons too [football.london].

However, there have been concerns over the level of transfer interest in the player. Several EPL clubs have already been linked with a potential summer move with Carter-Vickers having reinvigorated himself at Celtic Park [Daily Record].

But Hartson believes Tottenham have no interest in taking the player back after speaking to sources at the London club. As quoted by the Glasgow Times, he said: “I know Spurs want to sell. I know for a fact, because I speak to people at Spurs, and they want to sell Carter-Vickers.

“He’s been on loan several times, and they feel that he’s not going back to Spurs, so they want to do a deal with somebody for Carter-Vickers.

“You can talk about the forwards, Jota, (Liel) Abada and Kyogo (Furuhashi), whose numbers have been frightening. Joe Hart, who has been brilliant. But you’ve got to look at Carter-Vickers, he’s been the dominant one. I think he’s been outstanding. He would be as important a signing as what Jota would be, I really do think that. I think Carter-Vickers they need in terms of a defender.”

Ange Postecoglou won’t have any plans to lose Carter-Vickers this summer

Celtic will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on potential alternative options. However, the truth is that they won’t be planning to lose Carter-Vickers when it comes down to it. They’ll be prepping their bid as we speak and hopefully it’ll be enough to get the deal done.

Qualifying for the UCL gives us a big boost. As does the fact that the player will also be called up by the USA for his performance levels at Celtic. That shows that he can reach both his club and international ambitions by being a Celtic player.

CCV surely won’t want to put that at risk so soon by leaping to another EPL club. After all, there’s no guarantee he’ll be a first-choice wherever he goes.

From a Celtic perspective, we simply need him back. Not only would we struggle to find similar quality for £6m, but you would also need to build up a new centre-back pairing next season.

He’s formed an incredible partnership with Carl Starfelt that’s ready to be tested in the elite level of European football. All we can do is hope the player also sees that this is the best place for him to progress.

He still has so much to achieve here regardless of winning the title this season.
