Today should just be named ‘James Forrest Day’ shouldn’t it? And why not. The Celtic winger has been at the club since he joined the Celtic academy back in 2003 and he has never left.
Tonight, the club will honour his service with a friendly testimonial against Athletic Club and it does promise to be a huge occasion for the 32-year-old.
But before that, John Kennedy, Joe Hart and Calum McGregor have led with tributes to Forrest as they pay tribute to a player that has dedicated a large portion of his life at Celtic.

John Kennedy: “James is a player who has come through the academy. He’s one of us. He’s developed all the way through and he’s managed to deliver at the very highest level for a long period of time in terms of his trophy haul, in terms of his appearances and what he’s delivered for this club. He’s up there with the best.”
Joe Hart: “James has obviously been hugely committed to Celtic Football Club. He’s been here since he was a young boy. One of the most decorated, one of the most successful and a superb person. Someone I’ve enjoyed sharing a dressing room with.
“He’s someone I’ve loved sharing the dressing room with. There’s been big moments in the two years that I’ve been here. He’s always there, he’s always representing.”

Calum McGregor: “He’s got over 100 goals and 100 assists. So that tells you the level of player and the quality of player we have had over the last 13/14 years at the club.” [Celtic FC]
Forrest is clearly very respected by all levels of the Celtic management team and squad. Joe Hart’s comments, for a player that has only known the Celtic winger for two years, I thought, were a really nice touch.
At 32 years old, Forrest’s best years are obviously behind him. The winger has recently stated that he still intends to work hard at Celtic and do what he can for the team.
And you wouldn’t expect anything less from him. It’s that kind of attitude that has endeared him to the support and current and previous managers. I hope he has a great time tonight in front of the fans. Heaven knows he deserves it.
