Celtic captain Callum McGregor believes the Bhoys always have a chance of winning if Tom Rogic has anything to do with it.

Rogic has been somewhat revitalised this season. He’s playing the entirety of matches, and at times, thriving as a creator in Ange Postecoglou’s intense, attacking system.

The Australian, who played under Postecoglou with the Socceroos, was vital against Motherwell. His incisive, perfect through ball to Jota opened the scoring at Fir Park.

He could’ve set up more, with better finishing – Rogic had two key passes not including his assist for the Portuguese winger [FotMob].

McGregor, his captain and long-term teammate at Celtic, has sung Rogic’s praises ahead of today’s meeting with Ferencvaros. The skipper said [Herald]:

“Tom’s a top player and he’s on fire right now for us.

“The way he handles the ball, he’s definitely something special in terms of breaking the lines with his passes and receiving the ball.

“Long may his form continue. As long as we have a fit Tom Rogic playing that way we’ve always got a chance of winning games.”

Tom Rogic has shown his class for Celtic on many occasions, but still has peak years left

There was a time, not particularly long ago, when it looked as if we’d seen the last of Tom Rogic in a Celtic shirt.

Last season, he didn’t enjoy particularly great form, and seemed to look quite easily fatigued under previous regimes. It was almost an inevitability that if he started, he’d be off the park within 70 minutes.

Under Postecoglou, though, he seems to have found extra reserves of energy and inspiration. He doesn’t necessarily need a goal or an assist every game to show his impact. Rogic’s close control and ability to create something out of nothing is a considerable boost.

At 28, there’s still time for him to get even better. There’s a sense about Rogic that with his technique, he’ll age pretty well as a footballer. And if The Wizard of Oz is able to provide moments of magic for a few years left, the Celtic supporters will readily back him.

Close to 50 goals and 50 assists for Celtic [Transfermarkt], McGregor is right. When Rogic is on his game, the Bhoys always have a chance of outscoring opposition.

Will he be on it today?
