Some Celtic fans were left extremely impressed by the performance of Hibernian winger Martin Boyle today as he tore Rangers apart.

Boyle did the Hoops a massive favour as he bagged two assists which ensured Celtic’s rivals only left Edinburgh with a point in a 2-2 stalemate. It means that, when Celtic eventually play their game in-hand against Aberdeen, Neil Lennon’s men can go top of the table outright.

Celtic were last linked with a move for Boyle at the start of 2020. The Scottish Sun stated that the club’s head of football operations, Nick Hammond, watched the Australian international live.

And it appears that he’s caught the eye of the supporters today after a starring display against Steven Gerrard’s side. Here’s a look at some of the reaction:

Boyle makes a point, but is better required?

Boyle has definitely made a fine start to the campaign for Hibs. His two assists this afternoon means that he’s managed to bag himself three in total as well as three goals. That’s six direct goal contributions in eight Premiership matches (Transfermarkt).

It’s impressive stuff, but you can’t help but wonder whether we would be settling going for the likes of Boyle. Just as he impressed today against Rangers, he was extremely poor against the likes of Motherwell and Aberdeen in recent weeks.

Consistency has always been Boyle’s problem. Until he improves on that aspect, it’s difficult to say whether he would actually be our answer at right-mid for the long-term.

The winger has also recently signed a new long-term contract at Hibs. He sees his future at Easter Road, and it sky-rockets whatever Hibs would previously view as an acceptable fee.

The Scottish Sun reported back in January that Hibs wouldn’t be accepting a fee for anything less than Β£3million for his services. So there may be better options out there for a lesser or a similar sum.

Regardless, a big thank you to Boyle for doing a job today and making it advantage Celtic in the title-race. Here’s hoping we now keep him quiet next Sunday when he visits Parkhead.

In other news, AC Milan will reportedly only look to sign Kristoffer Ajer on one condition.
