Today’s Celtic captain Nir Bitton found a supporter lookalike in Perth today as a small band of hardy fans made the trip to McDiarmid Park without tickets for the fixture.

Crowds in Scotland have been restricted to just 500, meaning no Celtic fans were inside the stadium to cheer on the Bhoys against St Johnstone. However, a small group congregated outside the venue to demonstrate their support for the team, with one fan ending up swinging from a tree.

Bitton sees a bit of himself in the supporter and took to his Instagram stories tonight to share a picture of the incident, suggesting he’d taken his goal celebration a bit far after firing Celtic to a 3-1 victory.

Bitton was exceptional in the Hoops today so if he wants to spend a bit of time tree climbing in his spare time then more power to him.

In all seriousness, it was really pleasing to step up as captain today. Without Callum McGregor in the team I was fearful about the result. However, the Israeli international really showed urgency throughout the 90 minutes.

It was arguably him who dragged Celtic out of the second half slump during which St Johnstone scored and could have made the game nervy.

That’s the kind of attitude we want and need to see from our veteran players. Bitton has seen it all at Celtic, from poor results to extraordinary trophy success. He knows what is required to drag the team through difficult periods such as this.

Long may it continue in the new year as the squad is bolstered by more quality from the transfer market and the injury room.
