History is repeating itself for Kieran Tierney at Real Sociedad, Celtic hero now suffering again

Kieran Tierney just cannot catch a break as the former Celtic star has been dealt another cruel injury blow at Real Sociedad.

The left-back on loan from Arsenal has never had much luck on the injury front across his career and has spent many weeks and months on the treatment table.

The 26-year-old has suffered issues with his hip, groin and shoulder in the past but at the moment, it seems he can’t shrug off the latest problem to his leg.

Tierney was back playing regularly for the La Liga outfit after recovering from a hamstring setback that kept him out for nine Sociedad games in October and November.

He played every one of the La Liga club’s games in December before delivering an interview in the New Year expressing his desire to stay with Sociedad on loan until the end of the season.

Tierney said he has been ‘very much enjoying’ his time on the continent but won’t be in the best of moods now after suffering an unfortunate rupture to his hamstring, the same one that kept him out earlier in the season.

According to freelance reporter Mark Walker [The Scottish Sun], Kieran Tierney suffered a tear to his hamstring during Real Sociedad’s latest quarter-final win over Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey.

Tierney is said to have limped off just before half-time with the issue and is now set to spend yet another spell on the sidelines nursing an injury.

Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil had this to say: “We’re going to wait for the relevant tests, but it’s clear with Kieran that it’s a rupture in the hamstring.

“It’s a shame, because we have left back Aihen Munoz out too and it’s important to double up in positions because of the amount of games we’re going to have to play. But I’ve never made excuses and I’m not going to start now.”

Ruptured hamstrings can take weeks, possibly even months, to heal and while there have been reports suggesting it is a blow to Tierney’s Euro 2024 Scotland squad hopes, it is far too early to make a judgement yet.

Tierney’s career has been blighted by injury and continues to be as he heads into his peak years as a footballer. History continues to repeat itself for the former Hoops man and it will do him no favours in the summer if he is to leave Arsenal.

The likelihood is that while Tierney is good enough to play for most Premier League sides, clubs may opt not to take a risk on the injury prone star. And it’s a real shame to witness given his rise to stardom with Celtic over eight years ago now.
