There has been a warm social media reception from Celtic fans to the news that Dominic McKay will join the club as CEO this summer.

The club announced Peter Lawwell’s retirement from the position this morning. McKay was then announced as his replacement and will take charge from July 1st.

There’s long been feeling amongst the Celtic support that drastic change is needed in the leadership positions at Celtic Park.

Regression has taken hold over the last two years and the roles of Lawwell and Dermot Desmond have come into sharp focus.

McKay’s appointment may not represent a revolution, but it’s a step in the right direction.

He arrives with strong experience of sports administration at the Scottish Rugby Union. The new CEO is also a passionate Celtic supporter, having held a season ticket at the club for many years.

The hope will be he brings new and modern ways of thinking to the club.

Celtic fan reaction to Dominic McKay appointment

There are tough challenges ahead for Celtic. Success is no longer a guarantee in Scotland as Rangers pull themselves together. On the European stage, Celtic also need to improve.

McKay will be tasked with putting together the footballing expertise to meet fan expectation while having the foresight to not have too much of a hands-on approach to that side of the club.

Time will tell whether he’s successful, but his appointment at least gives Celtic fans hope that things might move forward promisingly next season.

Nothing can be worse than this one.

These supporters have taken to social media to share their thoughts on it all…

In other news, there’s a class Celtic connection to this weekend’s Copa Libertadores.
