Ange Postecoglou once revealed how he would feel about the possibility of returning to Celtic as their manager for a second spell.

The Hoops are on the hunt for a new permanent manager after Brendan Rodgers sensationally resigned on Monday night.

Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney will take charge of the first-team on an interim basis until his successor is found, and early signs suggest that his predecessor could be in contention.

Postecoglou is available after being sacked by Nottingham Forest and still holds a strong rapport with the Celtic fanbase after his fantastic two years in Glasgow.

But, would he take the job again?

Ange Postecoglou has never ruled out the possibility of rejoining Celtic

Returning to a club where you are adored and were so successful is always risky, but equally very appealing.

For Postecoglou, the allure of stepping out at Celtic Park would be very hard to turn down, and in 2023, he admitted that while he prefers to move on, he can’t rule anything out.

He told Football Scotland: “I feel like whenever I’ve left, I’ve left on the back of success and I like to leave that memory as it is. I just don’t think there’s any real purpose…

“I wouldn’t see myself going back anywhere I’ve been but who knows?”

Would Ange Postecoglou really want to return to Celtic?

While the idea of the Australian’s return would appeal to wide sections of the fanbase, others will rightly point out that not much has changed.

The same ownership is in place and, as proved this season, the squad is in desperate need of a rebuild.

Celtic also sit eight points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership and the prospect of missing out on the title would only harm his CV even more.

It is the romantic return some would want, but maybe not what he and Celtic need.
