Football in Scotland is followed by one of the most passionate supporter bases in the game. We might not have the glamour of the English Premier League or the style of the Serie A, but what we do have is passion.
And that passion is reflected in the attendances that we have seen across Scotland last season. The SPFL have reported that last season saw crowds of over 5m attend matches across the whole of the Scottish game last season. [SPFL]
In a statement from Neil Doncaster, the SPFL Chairman has highlighted that so far, clubs across Scotland have seen ‘impressive’ season ticket sales being recorded for the upcoming season. And since the SPFL was created in 2013, 40 million football supporters have walked through turnstiles up and down the country.

The Celtic fans can take great pride in their part in contributing to that success. With 50,000 season ticket holders and every home game recorded as a sell-out last season, our fans have shown incredible commitment to the team.
Our average home attendance last season was 58,755 and over 16 home games. That equates to just over 940k supporters turning up to cheer on the Bhoys last season. That’s an incredible 18% of the total number of fans across the country that attended SPFL games last season. [Football Scotland]
And with Celtic reaching the final and winning the League Cup last year, the Celtic fans have made a massive contribution to the SPFL figures when you take into consideration the two Hampden sell-outs for the semi-final against Kilmarnock and the final against Rangers.
Another major contributory factor in the SPFL record attendances last season is also Celtic’s incredible support consistently selling out their away allocations to every ground in the SPFL.
With a huge opening day weekend in store, the SPFL anticipate this season to be just as popular, if not more than last season.
