How Celtic loanee Shin Yamada has started life at SC Preußen Münster after January exit

Blink, and you would have missed it, Celtic fans.

That was Shin Yamada’s unforgettable six-month spell in Celtic colours.

The Japanese star was an unfortunate member of Celtic’s woeful 2025 summer transfer window, which led to widespread protests from fans and also the departure of Brendan Rodgers in October.

It also resulted in Yamada hardly being used and spending more time outside of the matchday squad than on the pitch.

Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise when Yamada was signed by SC Preußen Münster on a loan deal until the end of the season in January.

Was Shin Yamada unfairly treated at Celtic?

Shin Yamada is searching for first start and goal for Preußen Münster

What’s interesting is that Yamada has moved to Germany’s second tier, and he is playing in the same league as another underused Celtic player, Maik Nawrocki.

Now, Yamada has only played 22 minutes for Preußen Münster, who are sitting 16th in the table and are in a relegation battle.

He made his debut during a 1-1 draw against Nuremberg, and was handed a WhoScored rating of 6.3 for his 17 minutes on the pitch.

And then, last Friday, Yamada played just five minutes as his team picked up another point, this time against Bochum.

Preußen Münster’s next game is on Friday night against Fortuna Düsseldorf, and you suspect that’s where Yamada will earn his first start.
