Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard has become one of the most talked about footballers in France after his recent goalscoring heroics for the French under-21 team.
Edouard netted four goals in two games as Sylvain Rippol’s new look side earned straight friendly victories over Albania and the Czech Republic.
And the Hoops striker’s exploits haven’t gone unnoticed as he was rightly hailed by renowned French sports paper L’Equipe.
Edouard has gone down well with the French
Their match report said “the new French wave” had “found its centre forward.” This was alluding to the fact that a number of the previous members of the French 21s side had been forced to move on as they were now considered too old to play at youth level.
Moussa Dembele, who led the line for the French team for a number of years, was one such player while so was Olivier Ntcham.
L’Equipe also described Edouard’s performance as “formidable” and said that his second goal was “full of composure.”
The 21-year-old will qualify to be part of Ripoll’s setup until the next European Championships in 2021. That means that he has another two full years at youth level to continue his progression with the national setup.
Dembele enjoyed a similar run but is yet to be capped at full international level, despite some terrific displays for Lyon. The amount of quality the French have in attack with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe means that it’s still an uphill task for the likes of Edouard and Dembele.
But if both can continue their recent exploits then they will surely be given an opportunity at some point down the line.
