It has been a dream fortnight for new Celtic signing Luke McCowan after making a £1m switch from Dundee.

Not only did he put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club he’s supported since an early age but also made his debut in a derby victory over arch-rivals Rangers.

The midfielder did only get 13 minutes on the pitch but it was still a huge moment for the new Bhoy and he’ll be aiming for plenty more appearances as the season progresses.

The international break has given him a great chance to acclimatise to life at Lennoxtown, get to know his teammates and make a good first impression.

One of those he’ll be looking to catch the eye of is his captain Callum McGregor.

Fresh from winning his Player of the Month award for August, McGregor took part in a media conference on Friday and made it clear that McCowan is quickly becoming a valued member of the squad.

He said: “We got a bit of time with Luke last week – he has a brilliant attitude. He wants to run and work and do all the right things. I’ve just gotten to know him a little bit over lunch and breakfast and it was nice.

“He’s super excited about being here, but he’s a quality player and he’ll help the group. It’s been nice for moments like that, but we’ve got the group back together and now we focus on the training for games.

“The guys who have come in, first of all, have brilliant attitudes and a huge amount of quality on the training pitch. Some of the guys got a taster against Rangers on what it’s all about which was excellent.

“There’s a lot to be excited about and as long as we keep moving as a collective in the right direction then hopefully it will be a good season for us.”

McCowan will quickly be heavily involved at Celtic

After a strong summer period with Dundee, there is no doubt about McCowan’s match readiness. He netted three goals and assisted six more in eight appearances before travelling to Glasgow.

As Celtic’s schedule busies up to weekend and mid-week action, there’ll be plenty of chances for the new signing to impress the fans as well as his new squad mates.

His creative midfield play could be just the ticket if Brendan Rodgers plans on resting the established regulars. McCowan must be prepared to step in and show why Celtic made their move to sign him.
