Celtic start their defence of the League Cup with a home tie against Falkirk at Parkhead tonight.

Friday night football under the Parkhead lights awaits the Hoops support as Brendan Rodgers looks to defend the very first trophy he won as the Celtic boss in his first tenure at the club.

Celtic beat Rangers in a thrilling final last season where a 3-3 extra-time result forced the game into penalties where Daizen Maeda’s final spot kick brought the League Cup home for the 42nd time in the club’s unbroken history.

And now, against John McGlynn’s Falkirk, Celtic know they have a tough test ahead of them but will Parkhead be sold out for the big game tonight?

What happened the last time Celtic faced Falkirk in the League Cup

Celtic fans will remember that the Hoops faced Falkirk last season in the League Cup in a tough win at Parkhead.

Celtic beat Falkirk 5-2 but were made to work hard for the win after John McGlynn’s side twice took the lead in a frantic first 45 minutes as the then Championship side went in at half-time 2-1 up.

But doubles from Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn in the second-half sealed a 5-2 win for Celtic who then went on to thrash Aberdeen in the semi-final and then Rangers at Hampden in December.

So as Celtic know, Falkirk won’t be an easy task under the lights and Brendan Rodgers knows he is in for a tough test tonight.
