It may be interesting to see if Celtic’s Europa League draw affects the club’s move for Billel Omrani.

The Hoops were paired with Omrani’s side CFR Cluj in Friday’s draw, just days after it was reported that a £3million transfer was close.

Romanian outlet GSP.ro reported that negotiations were at an advanced stage earlier this week. However, the trail seems to have gone a little cold since.

And the fact that Celtic and Cluj will soon face off again is sure to add intrigue in the closing days of the transfer window.

Do Celtic need Omrani?

It seems a little strange that Neil Lennon would feel the need to bring in another forward to the club. We already have three pretty decent strikers battling it out for one place most weeks.

Odsonne Edouard is undoubtedly the number one choice but there is less reliance on him this season. Last year, the Frenchman led the line for the majority of the season unopposed but now he has two decent back-up options who can help ease the workload.

Both Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo have already proven themselves to be nuisances in the final third. The pair have started the season well, like Edouard, but also have a lot of improvement in them.

For Lennon to want to spend the reported £3million on another striker seems a little bit unnecessary. Omrani would be second choice in Glasgow at the very best, and he’d have to be up to something to move ahead of either Griffiths or Bayo in the pecking order.

We’re sure to see him at Celtic Park in the coming months. It remains to be seen what club’s colours he’ll be wearing though.
