Huddersfield sign Bockhorn and it’s good news for Celtic

Celtic look to have received a boost in their hunt for a new right-back with the news that Huddersfield Town have signed one of their own.

The Terriers have announced the completion of their deal for Borussia Dortmund full-back Herbert Bockhorn. The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Championship side and that could pave the way for a new Celtic addition.

Their signing of Bockhorn means it’s increasingly likely that captain Tommy Smith will depart the club. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent days and a deal is said to be close.

The fact Huddersfield have sanctioned a move for a new right-back does suggest that Smith’s days are numbered. Hopefully Neil Lennon is ready to pounce.

Good news for Toljan too

Bockhorn’s move to Huddersfield could also help former Celtic man Jeremy Toljan out. The German youth international is back at Borussia Dortmund following a failed spell in Glasgow.

Huddersfield’s latest signing means he has one less right-back to contend with for a place in the first-team. Granted he may still have to get past Lukasz Piszczek for a starting berth at the German giants, but it’ll still be welcome news.
