Hugh Keevins took a big slice of humble pie this week.
Celtic had plenty of naysayers this season, but few were as vocal as Keevins, who routinely predicted that the collapse of the Hoops’ season was imminent.
Why such an experienced journalist would be so dismissive of Martin O’Neill remains a mystery… but now, we get to see him going through the opposite of a victory lap.
On his routine Friday slot on Clyde Superscoreboard on Friday, he donned O’Neill’s Celtic now-iconic Hoops tracksuit.
Hugh Keevins on Celtic prediction: ‘I am a mug’
Keevins’ most infamous take from the season was that Celtic had a “zero percent” chance of winning the title.
In reference to this, Keevins said at the beginning of Friday’s show: “I would like to say that Celtic have a 100% chance of winning the Scottish Cup final tomorrow!

“In honour of Martin, I said they had zero percent chance of winning the league, and they did… Sorry, Martin!”
To make matters more humiliating for Keevins, someone baked him a Celtic cake with the “zero percent” quote iced onto it. Sensational stuff.
He continued: “I also said, If I am wrong and Celtic win the league, then I’m a mug… so I’d like to thank Charlie and Debs, who have sent me a mug saying: ‘I’m a mug’.”
He brought the mug to the show. Keevins then concluded: “Well, the next time I say that someone has zero percent chance, I’m going to say: ‘If I’m wrong, I’m a brandy!'”
Of course, Keevins isn’t the only one to have been left with egg on his face… many had already annointed Hearts as champions well before the final day at Celtic Park.
The Tynecastle side had spent 250 days at the top of the table by the time of the curtain-closer… but when it came to the most critical moment of the season, they couldn’t deliver.
Hearts’ hierarchy have spent the time since complaining about referee decisions, pitch invasions and everything in-between, only adding to their status as sore losers.
For them, and the many neutrals who were on the bandwagon, it’s been a sobering week.
