Celtic striker Hyoeongyu Oh has shown gratitude to manager Ange Postecoglou for keeping the faith in his transfer from Suwon Samsung Bluewings despite it being difficult to conclude.

Oh has revealed that Celtic’s interest in the player became apparent as early as last summer, with the Bhoys eventually concluding the deal in January. After the transfer was announced, Postecoglou himself admitted that at times it looked like it might not go through but thankfully all parties found a resolution.

For Oh, Celtic was always a priority destination for him – even if he had to keep it on the back burner while performing for his club back in South Korea.

Oh on ‘exhausting’ Celtic process

Speaking to the club’s official website, the striker said: “It could have been easy for the manager to give up if it didn’t seem like working out, but I’m thankful that he didn’t. I was a little bit nervous, but there was nothing I could do. As a Suwon player at that time, I had to show my best performance for them.

“I actually heard about the interest last summer. Ever since I heard this news I was dying to join Celtic. The process was very exhausting, but now I have the happiest moments here, getting to lift a trophy with amazing teammates and having all these new experiences.

“As the manager wanted me so much, I want to pay him back by scoring a lot of goals. My first goal when I got to the club was to get fit again as quickly as possible. When I came to Scotland it was in the middle of the season and in Korea the season was over. I’m very fit now compared to when I started and I hope I can show more of my better side.”

The 21-year-old has already netted three goals for Celtic. His first truly big moment for the Bhoys arrived last week when he scored a late and crucial goal at home to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership. That has announced his arrival as a top talent at the Bhoys as much as anything.

It’s still early days for him in Glasgow but the initial signs are certainly positive. It only gives me more hope he can succeed in a Celtic shirt knowing how long Postecoglou and the club pursued him in the first place.
