Hyeongyu Oh’s thrilling Celtic winner quickly became even more important on Wednesday night

Celtic could have seen their Scottish Premiership lead being reduced to just three points on Wednesday night before Hyeongyu Oh’s thrilling winner over St Mirren.

The match between second-placed Rangers and Dundee kicked off much later at Dens Park after a series of travel delays and match interruptions.

They were only at the half-time mark by the time Celtic’s win over the Buddies ended, leaving how important the victory at Celtic Park was unclear.

Philippe Clement’s side went on to thrash the Dees 5-0, scoring four second-half goals. Celtic fans are now reflecting on Oh’s effort as one of the most important goals of the season so far.

It would have been a significant blow to see Celtic’s seven-point lead evaporate to just three in the space of a few days, but thankfully the Bhoys showed a winning spirit that has defined the last few seasons of success.

Celtic must keep Rangers at arm’s length

The autumn and winter schedule is a pretty brutal one for Brendan Rodgers’ side and tight matches like last night’s are inevitable. The team must continue to find a way to win at all costs.

That’s especially true now that Rangers don’t seem to look as toothless under Clement as they did under Beale.

Celtic now have the chance to pile the pressure on the Ibrox side this weekend as they forego league duties to compete in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

The Bhoys would, of course, much prefer to be taking part in a Hampden occasion. However, travelling to Ross County and picking up three points to open up a bigger lead at the top of the table would be very welcome.

It will be demoralising for the opposition knowing that Celtic dropping points is a rare event. It means they need utter perfection just to prevent themselves from falling further behind. An eight-point lead this weekend would be fantastic evidence of that.
