Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon returned to the Hoops starting line-up for the first time in 2019 in the recent 2-0 win over Nomme Kalju.

He turned in a good performance in the game. He proved that when called upon, he still has what it takes to be a good goalkeeper.

However, he recently revealed that he wasn’t happy with the circumstances that led him losing his first-team spot to Scott Bain.

He disclosed that Brendan Rodgers told him that he was going to give Bain a run of games in the first-team. Gordon admits that he wasn’t pleased that he lost his place but had to accept it.

“After a month or so the manager came back to me and said he didn’t want to change it because the team was playing really well” Gordon said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“So, it was explained to me; I didn’t like it but that’s football.”

A knee injury prevented Gordon from trying to win his place back last season. However, he is now fit once more.

It is only natural that a football would be unhappy about losing his place in the first-team. Gordon was Celtic’s number one goalkeeper for a number of years, after all.

However, it can’t be denied that Bain has been excellent since he took over as Celtic’s goalkeeper.

Gordon has a tough battle on his hands if he wants to be the main man at Celtic once more. He does a have chance now though. His performance against Nomme Kalju will have given Neil Lennon plenty to think about.
