Veteran EFL boss and self-confessed Celtic supporter Steve Evans has stated that he doesn’t see Ange Postecoglou departing to join his former club Leeds United.

The Glaswegian-born manager has vast experience working south of the border and is currently boss of English League 2 side Stevenage.

In between spells at clubs such as Rotherham and Peterborough, Evans was also the manager at Leeds United for around seven months.

During his time working in England, the 60-year-old has regularly spoken about his support of Celtic and, at one stage, spoke about his ambitions of wanting to manage the Bhoys [Sun Sport].

With connections to both Leeds United and Celtic, Evans was asked to provide his opinion on recent links between Ange Postecoglou and the English Premier League side.

Reports have indicated that the former Socceroos boss could be considered as an option to replace Jesse Marsch at Elland Road.

Although Evans has no doubt that Postecoglou will one day manage in one of the biggest leagues in the world, he doesn’t believe it will come at Leeds.

The Scotsman explained that he doesn’t even feel as though the current Celtic boss has completed more than ‘25%’ of what he wants to achieve as boss and admitted as a supporter, he is desperate to see the 57-year-old remain at Parkhead.

He said [Sun Sport]: “Speaking from a Celtic point of view, as a fan since childhood, they must keep Ange. It’s as simple as that.

“They saw Brendan Rodgers walk away, and he came under fierce fire from the fans. I think the attraction of the Premier League swept him away. Ange also going mid-season would be a real heartbreaker for the Celtic fans.

“Yes, I think he’ll eventually work in the Premier League, although I don’t see it being now, and I don’t see it being for Leeds United.

“But I regard them as one of the top six to eight clubs in British football. Without a shadow of a doubt. Celtic are one of them and, it pains me to say, Rangers are also one of them.

“I was very proud to be manager of Leeds United, and that pride will be inside me until the day I leave this world. But I’m also a hugely proud Celtic supporter. Do I want Ange to go? No.

“I’m hoping not. But Leeds would be very foolish not to be considering him.”

He continued: “He’s doing a fantastic job — but I also feel he’s only about 25 per cent through his job at Celtic. He’s got a proper rebuilding opportunity there, and the players he’s brought in have progressed things dramatically.

“If he keeps doing the job he is, there’s every chance there will be bigger clubs in the Premier League coming for him than where Leeds are just now.”

Ange Postecoglou destined for even bigger jobs, but for now all focus is on Celtic.

It would be naive of any Celtic supporter to not expect Ange Postecoglou to not move on one day. The nature of the job he is doing at Parkhead will only continue attracting clubs.

And you would imagine that a job in the English Premier League one day awaits the ex-Yokohama F Marinos boss. But, for now, all his focus is on Celtic.

It is understandable for supporters to be a little on edge when we see more English clubs linked with Ange as the months go on.

But, as the likes of Evans and former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer have stated, they don’t see that coming at Leeds United.

Currently, Ange Postecoglou is loving life at Parkhead, having led the Bhoys to league and cup success in his first season.

However, he still has even more to achieve as manager of Celtic, including more trophy success this campaign and another crack at the UEFA Champions League next season.

At this moment in time, I just don’t see Postecoglou moving on, and his focus is firmly on achieving more success at Celtic Park going forward.
