‘I just can’t see it’: Andy Walker delivers Celtic reality check to new Rangers boss Philippe Clement

Andy Walker has made it clear that he just simply ‘can’t see’ new Rangers boss Philippe Clement overtaking Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

The Bhoys hold a seven-point lead at the top of the table, but for Andy Walker, there is still more to come and he feels the team ‘will improve’ during these coming months.

Those across Glasgow are hoping for some sort of manager bounce after sacking Michael Beale, despite the noise in the summer that he was going to wipe Celtic off their feet.

But the fact that Brendan Rodgers’ squad is now getting stronger, there was great news regarding Maik Nawrocki today, then it’s just bad news for Rangers.

That was touched upon by Andy Walker, who was also keen to add that Celtic are ‘way above’ their rivals off the pitch, as he told Go Radio.

The January transfer window needs to be factored in as well, it has gone well for Celtic in recent years and the new faces that have come in this summer are showing positive signs too.

Whatever the lead at the top come January, the team need to be pro-active and boost the squad further, with links with Real Madrid’s back-up keeper, Andriy Lunin – Peter Grant defended Joe Hart given those rumours.

Nonetheless, with Philippe Clement being appointed at Ibrox, Andy Walker was sure to send a reality check to the Belgian about Celtic.

Celtic ‘way ahead’ of Rangers

“I look across the city, I think Celtic will improve and Celtic are seven points ahead,” said Walker. “The idea of, managers can make a difference, but the idea of Rangers turning around a seven-point deficit, I just can’t see it.

“I would say, even now, Celtic are way above Rangers, in terms of business. We have seen it in all, the financials over the last number of years.

“Celtic can spend a lot more money. Rangers need to get value for money.”

Big months ahead for Celtic

There are big months ahead, both in the Premiership and in the Champions League. It could be argued what’s going to happen in Europe is far bigger.

By the time the next international break comes along, things will become a lot clearer as to whether the team can fight back from two opening defeats.

Let’s be honest, the players just didn’t deserve to lose against Lazio.

More of that second-half performance, but against Atletico Madrid, then hopefully, the three points will follow and it will be the lift-off that the team needs.
