Neil Lennon knows firsthand just how good Kieran Tierney really is.

The former Celtic manager worked closely with the left-back before he departed for Arsenal and he was one of the star performers on a consistent basis.

Lennon was the boss to sanction Tierney to Arsenal for £25million back in 2019 so there is not many people out there more suited to speaking on his potential return to Glasgow next season.

Tierney has been linked with a Celtic return after it emerged that the Gunners would not be extending his contract.

That news saw the rumour mill kick into overdrive with talk of Brendan Rodgers being desperate to sign the left-back.

Lennon reckons Celtic must sign KT if the situation becomes a realistic one aside from all the noise.

But the Northern Irishman did have one or two reservations regarding the Scotland cap and whether or not Celts should spend big on the defender – even if it would only be on his wages.

Tierney is believed to be on around £110k per week in North London which is an astronomical figure and one Celtic couldn’t get near.

The question would then be if the player might be willing to take a pay cut to return back home to the club he loves.

There is, of course, the option for the club to use cash they might have on the transfer fee for salary, but Lennon is not so sure.

What Neil Lennon has said about Tierney’s potential Celtic transfer

And addressing the rumour following Tierney’s first Arsenal clash in some time against Crystal Palace, Lenny said: “He went off injured on Tuesday night, but it might have just been cramp.

“Listen, if Kieran was available, you’d have to sign him.

“I just wonder about what strength and condition he is at the moment.

“There’s no doubting his quality as a player.

“He’s on high money as well at Arsenal, but I’m sure he’s desperate to go out and play regularly, but he’s had such a difficult time with injuries.”
