Thompson, who did UEFA coaching qualifications alongside the former Bournemouth manager, sounds excited about his potential appointment.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I know Eddie well, I did my UEFA Pro Licence with him. I think he’d be a perfect fit for the job.
“He’s young, enthusiastic and cut from the same cloth as Brendan Rodgers.
“He has a great philosophy on the game and I think if Eddie was to get the job, he plays the style of football and recruits the type of player Celtic fans would really enjoy watching.
“It’s a massive rebuild that needs doing at Celtic now, so it’s a huge summer from the top and the new chief executive, down to the new manager.”
Celtic fans should be excited by Howe prospect
Bringing a new eye-catching football style to the club, as well as some players we can really get behind, would certainly give beleaguered supporters a boost.
I don’t know about you but I’ve grown pretty tired of watching the increasingly redundant current players toil their way through a match without apparent cohesive tactical instruction.
The sooner this season is over and we can get some fresh ideas in at the club the better.
That fresh start is as much of a reason as any to be excited about Howe. The comparisons to Rodgers should also do that though.
Unquestionably the Leicester boss raised standards at Lennoxtown and ushered in an incredible era of dominance in Scotland. If Howe can put us on the road to that kind of success again, we have plenty to look forward to.
