Chris Sutton was one of Celtic’s best buys in the modern era.

It could be argued that, behind Henrik Larsson, Sutton was probably the most important player Martin O’Neill ever brought to Celtic.

Sutton was part of the 2003 UEFA Cup Celtic team that reached the final in Seville. He also won four league titles, three Scottish Cups and a Leauge Cup during his time at Celtic Park.

The big striker enjoyed immense success under Martin O’Neill but it was when the Northern Irishman left that Sutton’s troubles at Celtic began.

Chris Sutton says ‘odd’ Celtic boss ‘turned me over’ in contract talks

The arrival of Gordon Strachan signalled the end of Sutton’s Celtic career as the former striker shares how he ‘didn’t see eye-to-eye’ with the ex-Hoops boss.

Sutton told the Monday Night Club [6m], “I thought he was odd, a little bit weird. He turned me over over a contract situation and that’s basically it, really. So we didn’t see eye to eye.

“So I ended up leaving. We get on now, Gordon, when I see him, as long as I agree with everything he says.

“But it’s still interesting, it’s quite nice to know that Celtic’s loss was Birmingham’s loss.

“Gordon did well at Celtic. He did, I have to say that. And I wasn’t with him long enough to know whether he was a good coach, but he did very well at Celtic.”

Gordon Strachan’s record as Celtic manager

Strachan took over from Martin O’Neill and was immediately put on a cost-cutting exercise as he looked to move out some of Celtic’s big earners.

But even with that, the former Aberdeen man was very successful in his time at the club. So with that in mind, here is all the silverware Strachan won during his four years at Celtic.

Strachan was also very successful in Europe. After his first season where he lost 5-0 to Artmedia Bratislava to go out of the Champions League 5-4 on aggregate, Strachan was the first manager to get Celtic out of the group stages of Europe’s top competition.
