Celtic’s title win last night was finished off with a blistering 5-0 over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
Brendan Rodgers’ side has had to deal with plenty of adversity this season as injuries to key players and loss of form allowed Rangers to get back into the title race at the turn of the New Year.
But a win at Celtic Park against Rangers two weeks ago put Brendan Rodgers’ team firmly in the driving seat after the Ibrox side collapsed after the 3-3 draw in Glasgow’s south side.
And it was who inspired that win, and Celtic throughout this whole season, that had Sky Sports’ James McFadden waxing lyrical at Rugby Park last night.
McFadden ‘delighted’ with Celtic captain
Speaking directly at full-time last night, McFadden explained why he’s delighted with Callum McGregor whilst admitting he was worried about the Hoops skipper earlier this season.
McFadden said [Sky Sports], “I think he’s shown [his influence] over the last couple of weeks. His introduction back into the team was too soon because I don’t think he’d trained much.
“But it’s not taken him too long to get it back. The last few weeks his performances have been outstanding.
“I know this is about Celtic and all the Celtic fans will be delighted but I’m just delighted he’s going to be ready for Germany.
“Honestly, I was really worried but he looks back to his best, there’s a couple of games to go and hopefully he will be alright for Germany.”
McGregor was a sore miss in the heart of the Celtic midfield when he was out injured just a few short weeks ago.
Celtic suffered a 2-0 defeat at Hearts without the captain but did pick up full points against Livingston and St Johnstone thereafter.
McGregor brings drive, passion and determination to the side and that was exemplified in the 2-1 Parkhead win over Rangers.
The Celtic captain is crucial to Brendan Rodgers and no doubt, like McFadden, Scotland boss, Steve Clarke, will also be delighted that McGregor looks back to his best.
