Ian McCall claims Alfredo Morelos is better than Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard

Ian McCall has, perhaps unsurprisingly, claimed that Alfredo Morelos is a better striker than Odsonne Edouard.

Morelos is top of the goalscoring charts in Scotland at the moment with 11 goals to his name. Edouard is on six. But that is just about the only thing the Colombian has on the Celtic man.

Edouard has been instrumental in Celtic’s early-season success. He scored a fine goal at Ibrox whilst Morelos went 10 derby games in-a-row without netting. Edouard has also been linked with genuine big-money moves away that trump anything Morelos has been linked with (Daily Mail).

But McCall, despite Edouard consistently outperforming Morelos in big games, has hit back. Speaking on BBC Sportsound, the Ayr United manager said the following:

“If you take Jermain Defoe and take seven or eight years off him then it is a no-brainer. He is well ahead of them. His achievements are miles ahead of them.

“But I would just touch down Morelos just now. I think Morelos, if he can just curb himself, he looks as if he can score all types of goals.

“They are all good strikers but right now I would take Morelos but they’ve got a long way to go to get to Defoe’s level.”

A tiring debate – but Rangers supporters don’t want to listen

It’s quite incredible that Rangers fans are still trying to claim Morelos is better than Edouard. At the end of the day, Morelos has consistently fluffed his lines when it matters for Rangers.

The only thing Rangers fans seem to point to in this argument is the goalscoring charts. However, the stats didn’t seem to matter when they were defending Ryan Kent’s form from last season. But of course they’re a big deal when you compare Edouard and Morelos.

The best part about McCall’s words is that he seems to think Morelos and Defoe are the top strikers in Scotland. He doesn’t even mention Edouard when talking about the number one in the country.

Morelos can score all types of goals apparently – except big-game ones and derby ones of course. He’s actually become a laughing stock in the derby, and you’ll do well to find a good game from him in that fixture.

But McCall is just symbolic of the Rangers fans who don’t want to be told the truth here. They’ve been so starved of any success over the last decade that they try so hard to hold anything over Celtic that they can.

But at the end of the day, there’s a reason Rangers haven’t been able to sell Morelos over the last couple of years.
