Former Celtic great Shunsuke Nakamura will become a coach at Yokohama FC, taking on a city Ange Postecoglou conquered.

The iconic former Celtic hero, one of the most loved Hoops players of the 21st century after huge title-winning and Champions League goals, announced his retirement at the age of 44 recently.

And Naka hasn’t waited long to get back into the game, becoming a coach at the club where he ended his playing days.

As reported by the Japan Times, Nakamura will work under Yokohama FC manager Shuhei Yomoda, who recently led to the club back to the top-flight.

He said: “I am very happy to go into battle with Yokohama FC again next season.

“I want to take on the challenge from scratch, trying all sorts of new things and learning through trial and error.”

Yokohama is a Nakamura’s home city, and he played most often for Yokohama F. Marinos in his lengthy career.

Of course, that is the club where Ange Postecoglou enjoyed his success as a manager in Japan, winning the 2019 J1 League title.

Given that Celtic have such a large Japanese contingent at present, could we one day see Shunsuke Nakamura back in Glasgow in a coaching capacity?

I bet his side’s free-kicks are good.
